David Thompson Country

Alberta

Named for the highway which passes through it, the David Thompson Country includes the mountainous lands between Nordegg and Banff National Park near its gates at Saskatchewan River Crossing. Its main focal point is Abraham Lake, a huge reservoir designed to capture the waters of both the Saskatchewan and Cline rivers (the drinking water source for both the Edmonton and Red Deer regions). Situated along the front ranges of the Rockies, David Thompson Country receives significantly less snowfall than the icefields parkway region to its immediate west.
