The East African Rift (part of the Great Rift Valley) is a region of heightened volcanic and seismic activity extending from Ethiopia through Tanzania. Over time this activity helped to create the tallest mountains and volcanoes in Africa, such Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya, and Mt. Meru. Tanzania, itself, is a peaceful developing nation with a thriving tourism industry focused on both mountain adventure and safaris.
